Technology: Hardware & Software
The innogy bit.B system consists of four components:
- bit.B Sensor node
- bit.B Gateway
- bit.B Online Monitor
- Sensors: measurement of characteristic values
- bit.B Sensor node: receiving and processing the sensor signals in a comprehensible data format
- bit.B Gateway: transfer of the captured data to the bit.B server
- bit.B Online Monitor: visualization and analysis of the recorded sensor data
The hardware offered by us has a power of only a few watts and therefore a power consumption of few watt hours. Compared to the other consumers of your company it is marginal.
The installation time depends on the type and number of components to be connected. For Example a system with 20 sensors can be easily installed by an electrician in just a few hours.
The installation can be carried out by us or by the customer himself. The installation by us is associated with additional costs. These depends on the installation time.
The entire pre-configuration of the data sources in the bit.B online monitor belongs to our delivery and performance standard. As soon as the sensors are connected to our sensor nodes, the system detects all sensors automatically.
If you subsequently connect sensors to the sensor nodes, you must configure them yourself in the online monitor. However, our service team will gladly assist you with the configuration.
An already existing innogy bit.B system can be extended easily and within a very short time. This allows you to monitor specific areas of your company and then expand monitoring to the entire company.
The innogy bit.B system sends all recorded data by default to our database in five seconds intervals. The data processing takes only a few milliseconds, so the measured values are available in real time in the online monitor. If necessary the transmission intervals can also be changed.
All sensors with a normalized, analog output signal of 0-10 V or 0/4-20 mA, a digital output signal or a pulse interface are compatible with the bit system. In this way, values such as

- any other values that have an output compatible with the innogy bit.B system

Normally the energy consumption of each machine can be measured. The condition for measuring the energy consumption is that you have access to the phases of the power supply of your machine. Our system offers the possibility to monitor both single-phase and three-phase machines.
The maximum current to be measured for the sensors we offer is 4000 A. The maximum power in the low-voltage network (400 V) is about 2,700 kW. In other voltage networks, the power output may be higher.
Sensor node & Gateway
Measured values of a sensor over an undefined time interval are called data line. A maximum of 6 data lines per sensor node can be created. The maximum number of data lines corresponds to the number of sensor node inputs. With the help of the bit.B-Online-Monitor, the data lines can be used to calculate any number of key figures and analyzes.
The number of assigned sensor nodes per gateway can theoretically be arbitrarily high. However, our quality standards recommend a maximum of 15 sensor nodes to a gateway. By decreasing the transmission intervals, more than 15 sensor nodes can be assigned to a gateway in sufficient quality.
The measured sensor data are recorded by the bit.B sensor node and processed for a data format which is understandable for the innogy bit.B system. The processed data is then transmitted to the bit.B gateway by using a Lemonbeat radio protocol at a frequency of 868 MHz.
The range without interference is a maximum of 1.5 km. In consideration of disturbing factors for example, steel sheet walls and concrete, we have reliably tested the use of the hardware within a radius of 50-100 meters.
Measured values of a sensor over an undefined time interval are called data line. In principle, any number of gateways can be used. Our quality standards do not allow each gateway to allocate 15 sensor nodes with 6 sensors each. In this case, the number of data lines is 90. By using the bit.B Online Monitor, the data lines can be used to calculate any number of key figures and analyzes.
Data exchange between bit.B gateway and server can be done in three different ways. Communication between the gateway and the server can be done by using
a WiFi stick
a UMTS stick or
a LAN / Ethernet cable
The exact procedure for the individual options can be found in the operating instructions of the gateway.
The range without interference is a maximum of 1.5 km. In consideration of disturbing factors such as steel sheet walls and concrete, we have reliably tested the use of the hardware within a radius of 50-100 meters.
All sensors with a standardized analogue output signal of 0-10 V or 0 / 4-20 mA, a digital output signal or a pulse interface are compatible with the innogy bit.B system. It is possible to procure the required sensors yourself or to acquire them via us.
The innogy bit.B system is designed so that hundreds of sensors can be easily integrated.
A sensor node can receive the signals from up to six sensors. Therefore significantly fewer sensor nodes than sensors are required.
In addition to the integration of sensors on the machine level, it is also possible to integrate different meters into the innogy bit.B system. A condition for this is a pulse output (S0 interface) on the counter, which can be permanently used by the innogy bit.B system. The desired consumption can be monitored by specifying the pulse value in the bit.B online monitor.
In the future, data from a counter with a Modbus interface can also be displayed in the online monitor. Measured values of a sensor over an undefined time interval are called data line. As a rule, a data line is produced by a sensor. However, we also have sensors that produce two data lines.
In principle it is possible to integrate data into the bit.B online monitor without having installed sensors or counters. An example is MSCONS imports or CSV uploads.
MSCONS is the abbreviation for “Metered Services Consumption report message” and is an electronic message format for standardized transmission of load profile and counter data. For the MSCONS import we require a power of attorney, which contains the power delivery address and the point of delivery point. The authorization template is provided by your network operator. If we have a signed power of attorney, we will receive daily the consumption data of your network operator and assign it to your customer account.
Both electricity and gas meter data are already successfully imported into the innogy bit.B system.
